FAQ

Does my child need to know how to swim to join the team?

We are not a learn-to-swim team so we recommend that your child at least have basic swim skills or the ability to doggie paddle to have the best chance of success. Even receiving a handful of swim lessons before the first day of practice would benefit your child if they don't know how to swim.

My child can swim, but not the length of the pool; can I still sign them up?

Yes! Swimmers will have more than two weeks of practice to get across the pool. Many of our younger swimmers will initially need to stop and rest at the lane rope, but this will not disqualify them from participating. All swimmers 6 years of age and under will undergo an evaluation on May 20th to determine if they can continue to attend practices and compete competitively. For more information, please review our Team Handbook or Registration Information page.

Does my child need to know all four strokes?

No, the coaches will teach the strokes and refine technique throughout the season.

Do I have to attend all of the meets?

No, we understand families may have other commitments, and their child may have to miss a meet. However, to compete at a post-season meet, your child will need to swim in two regular meets. Therefore, we ask that you commit to as many meets as possible.

What if I have to miss practice?

There are no make-up practices. We encourage swimmers to attend as many practices as possible to gain the maximum benefit; however, many swimmers participate in other sports/extracurricular activities or must attend end of school year events and will miss practice occasionally.

Is the swim team just for competitive swimmers?

No! Summer swim team is for swimmers of all abilities to engage with the community and have fun.

What does my registration cost include?

Registration fees include roughly two months of swim instruction, swimmer t-shirt, help pay coach salaries, end-of-season awards, and league insurance.

What can I expect in regards to the swim team schedule?

Summer swim team is a short but full season. Practices start the last week of April/first week of May and run through mid-to-late June. We'll host a few fundraising events including 1-2 team car washes, spirit nights and Fun Food Fridays! We will have a mock meet/time trials towards the end of May in which we will capture seed times and also run a practice meet. We will have 4 swim meets which will start after Memorial Day weekend not including championship meets (Meet of Champs and All-Stars) for those who qualify. We will then wrap up the season with a team pool party and awards night which is usually a potluck dinner and swimming for the whole family!

I just registered for swim team for the first time. What do I do now?

Read carefully through all the sections of our team website and team handbook. We realize this is a lot of information but everything you need to know is on the website and will prepare you for the season. Also, plan to attend the parents meeting in April (required for new parents).
